Discover Navajo w/Monument Valley Full Moon Tour

Day One

We’ll head from the Valley to historic Cameron Trading Post. Established in 1916, the trading post originally served as a gathering place for Navajo and Hopi people to trade their wares. Here you can enjoy lunch on your own and learn some of the history of the Native Americans from this area. From the Trading Post we’ll depart for Tuba City. Tuba City is located within the stunning Painted Desert and is home to the Navajo Interactive Museum and Historic Tuba City Trading Post. Learn about the land, language, history, culture and ceremonial life of the Navajo. The impressive Navajo Code Talkers Exhibit includes gear and tools that were used in battle, and transcripts of a Code Talker. The Navajo Code Talkers were known for their speed in sharing messages, much faster than Morse code. The Historic Tuba City Trading post was started in 1891 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We will travel on to Page and check-in to the Hyatt Place Page before visiting the Red Heritage Native American Dinner Show, showcasing local dancers and music.

Day Two

Breakfast is included before our tour of the mesmerizing Antelope Canyon. Walk through this stunning slot canyon with a Native American Guide and be amazed at the breathtaking beauty created by millions of years of water and wind erosion. There are a variety of restaurants in Page where you’ll have lunch on your own before we depart for Monument Valley, a centerpiece of the Navajo Nation. A tour of Monument Valley is always special, but even more so when it is set aglow by the light of the full moon. Travel the 17-mile loop filled with iconic landmarks like the East and West Mittens, and the awe-inspiring Three Sisters Viewpoint. In addition to the breathtaking landscape, enjoy dinner and a storytelling speaker. A Full Moon tour of Monument Valley will create memories that last a lifetime! We’ll spend the night at Goulding’s Lodge, steeped in rich history, and offering endless views of Monument Valley. Numerous movies have been filmed at the Lodge, and John Wayne stayed here several times.

Day Three

Breakfast is included today before we depart for Canyon de Chelly. Nowhere in the Navajo Nation is the blending of past tradition and present culture more evident than at the Canyon de Chelly National Monument. The Monument is home to several periods of Indian Culture dating from 350 A.D. to 1300 A.D. The 26-mile Canyon’s sheer cliffs range from 30 to more than 1,000 ft. providing a spectacular backdrop for hundreds of Anasazi Ruins, as well as modern Navajo homes and farms. Tonight will be spent at the historic Thunderbird Lodge, the only hotel in Canyon de Chelly. (No elevators). Dinner is included tonight at the lodge’s restaurant, located in the original Trading Post built in 1896.

Day Four

Window Rock will be our first stop today after our included breakfast. As you enter the park, look for the statue of the Navajo Code Talker, and notice the many symbolic structures. A circular path outlines the four cardinal directions, 16 angled steel pillars include the names of war veterans, and a healing sanctuary features a fountain made of sandstone that is used for reflection and solitude. While in Window Rock, we will visit the Navajo Nation Tribal Chambers, similar to our US Capitol Building. The landmark building is significant for its association with the 1930s New Deal. Before returning to the Valley, we’ll visit the Hubbell Trading Post and National Historic Site. Hubbell Trading Post is the oldest continuously operated trading post in the United States, a National Historic Site that features a bookstore, exhibits, rug weaving demonstrations and picnic tables.
