Every year, after traveling more than 5,000 kilometers from Canada to México, the weary Monarchs descend upon the same Oyamel Woods located in the highest part of the Michoacán Mountains. This remote portion of México has become a sanctuary for the majestic Monarch which hibernates here before traveling north to the United States and Canada. No other place in the world hosts these amazing and wonderful creatures.

Experience the enchantment of the Monarch butterfly migration in the serene mountains of Michoacan, Mexico. Amidst the tranquility of the forested landscape, witness the graceful dance of millions of monarch butterflies as they flutter through the air. Day One

Arrival Ciudad de México - Upon arrival in Mexico City, the vibrant and bustling capital, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel, where your Tour Manager will be waiting to welcome you. Take time to settle in and enjoy a refreshing welcome cocktail as you begin your journey.

Day Two

Exploring Ciudad de México - Today, we’ll explore the picturesque suburbs of San Ángel and Coyoacán, with visits to the Museum of Popular Art and Frida Kahlo’s former home, now a renowned art museum. We’ll savor a delightful lunch in Coyoacán before returning to the hotel for an engaging Monarch Butterfly presentation by Adriane Hopkins, Director of Education at Butterfly Wonderland followed by a welcome dinner.

Day Three

Tlalpujhua - After breakfast, we set out for the Piedra Herrada Sanctuary to witness the stunning overwintering site of the Monarch butterflies. After enjoying lunch at the sanctuary, we we journey further into Michoacán, arriving at Hotel Hacienda Cantalagua for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day Four

Sierra Chincua Sanctuary / Tlalpujhua -Immerse yourself in the wonder of the Sierra Chincua Sanctuary, where the aweinspiring Monarch butterfly migration unfolds before your eyes. After lunch at the sanctuary, stroll through the picturesque town of Tlalpujahua, renowned for its exquisite handcrafted Christmas ornaments. In the evening, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day Five

Valle de Bravo - After breakfast, head to the heart of Valle de Bravo, a picturesque town known for its cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and stunning lake views. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before spending the afternoon exploring at your own pace. Later, relax at the hotel then experience the captivating 45-minute film Flight of the Butterflies, offering fascinating insights into the Monarch migration. Enjoy dinner on your own this evening.

Day Six

El Rosario Sanctuary / Valle de Bravo - Explore the breathtaking El Rosario Sanctuary, where you’ll witness Monarch butterflies in their serene winter habitat. Savor a homemade lunch surrounded by the natural beauty of the reserve, with time for shopping afterward. In the afternoon, depart for Valle de Bravo, where you’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Hotel Misión.

Day Seven

Toluca / Ciudad de México - On our journey back to Mexico City, we’ll stop in Toluca to visit its stunning botanical garden, home to the world’s largest collection of stained glass. Upon returning to Mexico City, enjoy time to explore the historic district and have lunch at your leisure. In the evening, check in at the Hotel Marquis Reforma and celebrate our journey with a memorable farewell dinner.
