Depart the Valley and travel to Kartchner Caverns for the day. These stunning caverns are located at the Eastern base of the Whetstone Mountains, just Southeast of Tucson.
This half-mile tour will take you through the desert and then underground! Where you will discover the role that water plays in creating the caverns & see the original trail created by the discoverers.
Day Excursion
Depart the Valley and travel to Kartchner Caverns for the day. These stunning caverns are located at the Eastern base of the Whetstone Mountains, just Southeast of Tucson. This half-mile tour will take you through the desert and then underground! Where you will discover the role that water plays in creating the caverns & see the original trail created by the discoverers. This tour takes approximately an hour and a half to complete, 50 minutes of which is underground. Discover the role that water plays in creating the caverns. You will see the discoverers' original trail, 45,000-year-old bat guano, delicate formations, and "Kubla Khan," the largest column formation in Arizona. This stunning limestone cave boasts many world-class features that have been protected since the cave was discovered in 1974. Kartchner Cavern is a wet, "live" cave, meaning water percolates from the surface and calcium carbonate features continue to grow in the darkness. A box lunch is also included. Return back to the Valley this evening.
