Laissez les bons temps rouler! Join us as we travel to Louisiana for Mardi Gras 2023! We will tour the Tabasco Factory, have lunch at Rip Van Winkle Gardens and enjoy wine tasting at the Teche Plantation. All before we spend the day getting VIP treatment at the King's Parade in Downtown Lafayette. Following Fat Tuesday, we will head to New Orleans for a cooking class & amazing Brunch while we spend the night at a property in the Frech Quarter.

Mardi Gras is more than just a day, it’s an entire season. Carnival season begins on Twelfth Night (January 6) and ends on Fat Tuesday.

Experience the history and production of our world-famous hot sauce on Avery Island, Louisiana. Rip Van Winkle Gardens

Get lost in the beauty of Jefferson Island when you book a tour at our special event venue. Rip Van Winkle Gardens is a charming place filled with surprises and adventure around every corner. Built in 1870 by revered actor Joseph Jefferson, this charming mansion is the perfect place to spend exploring the grounds.

Teche Plantation

Located in New Iberia’s Main Street District, the Shadows-on-the-Teche holds many layers of history in its walls and gardens. Built for wealthy sugar planters, Mary and David Weeks, the house remained in the same family for four generations. As a former plantation home, the story of the Shadows is as much about the hundreds of enslaved men, women, and children who lived and labored at the site as it is about the Weeks family. Their experiences, as well as those of their descendants, profoundly shape the house’s history and legacy.

 

The National World War II Museum

Expand your visit to The National WWII Museum on an exclusive guided tour! Each tour takes you on a different adventure, from the immersive exhibits inside the Campaigns of Courage: European and Pacific Theaters pavilion to the private Center for Collections & Archives where a curator will display and explain WWII artifacts not currently on view in the Museum.

The Famous Court of 2 Sisters

The Court of Two Sisters is more than a restaurant – it’s a legend. Enjoy luscious Creole and Cajun cuisine. Pass through our Charm Gates. Make a wish in the Devil’s Wishing Well. And hear the story of Emma and Bertha, the two sisters who ran a potions shop here once upon a time in the French Quarter.

Fly from Phoenix, Arizona to New Orleans, Lousisana. This night, check in at the Comfort Suites in Lafayette, LA. Welcome dinner included this evening!

Day Two | Feb 20

Start the day with a tour at the Tabasco Factory for a guided tour. Lunch will be at Rip Van Winkle Gardens. Following lunch, we will head to the Teche Plantation for an afternoon wine tasting. We will enjoy the evening parade tonight + a Po' Boy box dinner from Olde Tyme Grocery.

Day Three | Feb 21

Throw me Something Mister!
Spend the Day watching the Mardi Gras Kings Parade! We will be at the VIP Bandstand area in the heart of Downtown. Complete with covered seating and private restrooms. In addition to primetime parade viewing, you will sample king cake, boudin, and sip on Lafayette's signature cocktail "The Rouler". Lunch included today at Crawfish Town USA. Dinner on Own.

Day Four | Feb 22

Depart for New Orleans and continue to World War II Museum. We will also view the World War II 4-D movie! Lunch & dinner on own today.

Day Five | Feb 23

This day we will go to a traditional New Orleans Cooking School followed by a tour of the famous Mardi Gras World.

Day Six | Feb 24

On our last day we will enjoy brunch at Famous Court of 2 Sisters before heading to the Airport to Depart for Phoenix.

When is Mardi Gras?

Ash Wednesday is always 46 days before Easter, and Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) is always the day before Ash Wednesday. Easter can fall on any Sunday from March 23 to April 25, with the exact date to coincide with the first Sunday after the full moon following a spring equinox.

The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold. Purple represents justice, green represents faith and gold represents power.

 

What is a King Cake?

A King Cake is an oblong pastry that contains a tiny plastic baby who represents the Christ child. Whoever gets the baby hidden within the king cake must buy the next one. And so the tradition continues on to Mardi Gras Day. There are different styles of King Cake from traditional to modern, all of them delicious.

 

The 'Rouler'

At the drink's core is Sweet Crude Rum produced by Lafayette's only distillery, Rank Wildcat Spirits. The rouler is balanced with sweet and sour, simple syrup, bitters and club soda and is served over ice
