Bisbee and the Copper Queen Mine Tour
Bisbee is a mile-high historic mining town with a vibrant art and music scene. The main street includes the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate, and is lined with unique galleries, shops and eateries. More than 1,000 staircases are found throughout town, and originally served as thoroughfares for accessing homes built on the steep hills. Now, nine of those staircases are part of the annual Bisbee 1000: The Great Stair Climb, a 4.5 mile race held the third weekend in October each year.
The Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee was a significant copper producer for nearly a century until its closure in the mid-70s. Once the richest copper mine in the Arizona, the mine now offers tours that take riders 1,500 feet into the mine aboard an original mine train. The guides, often retired miners, share stories and talk about the mining process and the equipment used for drilling, hauling and blasting.
DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun
DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is a 10-acre Historic District in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Celebrating the life and art of Ettore Ted DeGrazia, the property includes unique and beautiful grounds, and a variety of buildings set in a natural desert setting. The original structure, built in the 1950s, was an open-air adobe mission, constructed of traditional adobe bricks, built by DeGrazia and his friends. The galleries contain six permanent collections and rotating exhibitions of artwork.
